NEWS RELEASE:

Role Reversal: Author giving "royalties" to early buyers of
The Generosity Experiment. (FYI:
In traditional publishing it's the
author who
receives royalties.)
In the past 13 years Andrea Reynolds has survived
a
home invasion, death threats, a stalker, character
assassination, hate campaigns, bullying, scare tactics,
denial of her fundamental rights, business closures, petty
lawsuits, massive debt, homelessness... and now she's
writing a book. During those 13 years of adversity,
Reynolds made a conscious, determined effort to be generous
to all those she encountered in person and online, no
matter what,
to
see how they would react and respond to
uncommon generosity.
As an "immersion" writer she wanted to document the
responses for a future book.
Perhaps
you have already encountered this curious and
unconventional woman in some capacity. If so, you may find
yourself in Andrea's next book,
The Generosity Experiment.
Her
friends, neighbors, real estate agents, physicians, car
dealers, car mechanics, dentists, landlords, prospective
clients, contest entrants, are all fair game. (But don't
worry, she's too kind to name names... usually.)
Employing
what she calls "creative generosity," Reynolds continues to
present a variety of
circumstances,
small and large, to test people. From
offering free
room and board, contests awarding a free home and free
marketing services; to
asking for $1
worth of electricity and shady place to park as an
intentionally homeless author living in her van, she is
sincere about each one. She gives everyone the opportunity
to put their best foot forward by revealing upfront – in
conversation, on her web site, on blogs and on her van -
that she is a kindness activist writing a book about
whether people will choose to treat her with kindness or
cruelty. Knowing her intention hasn’t stopped quite a few
people from being outrageously mean-spirited and sometimes
physically threatening. Says Reynolds, "It's as though some
folks don't want to be known as kind."
Reynolds summarizes, "The ultimate aim of
The Generosity Experiment is
to make readers more conscious of what wonderful
opportunities lie in front of them so they don't sabotage
them for themselves. My stories are important to wake us up
to being more aware.”
In keeping with her philosophy, she will extend her
generosity to people who buy a copy of her book
before it's written.
Whoever buys advance copies ($24
each) has an option to share in the profits of the book
and its spin-offs… at no extra cost. So it's likely
“patrons” will receive some or all their money back
(once 10,000 copies are sold at $29-39), but in time
they may actually come out ahead financially. Ten
percent of profits will be donated to charity.
Only 2,400 units are still available and may be purchased
until April 30, 2010. Every early buyer will receive a copy
of
The Generosity Experiment for
each unit purchased, his/her name and location in the
Acknowledgments, and some form of rebate as the book sells.
Reynolds hopes to start writing full-time May 1; and
publication is scheduled for November 2010.
